#17: The Power of the Words That Are Coming Out of Your Mouth

January 10, 2021

Do you feel like you actively consider the words that are coming out of your mouth on a regular basis?

Or do you let just any old thing tumble out? Do your feelings rule when it comes to what you say? And how’s that been working for you?

Spoken words are powerful. The book of Genesis tells us the entire world was created when God spoke. And we’re made in the image of God, so we carry that creative capacity inside of us. When we speak, we create, too.

So how can you make sure that the words you speak carry power to create the things you want to see created? And how can you get into the habit of declaring powerfully without feeling like you’re just saying things and hoping they’re going to happen? That’s what we’re talking about in this episode. So grab your journal and a pen, and . . . Let’s Go!

What you will learn in this episode:

  • Biblical basics around speaking and the power of the tongue;
  • The trouble we can get into when we don’t watch our words; and
  • 4 practical steps for ensuring you speak words that powerfully create the good things you want to see in your world.

Scripture References mentioned in this episode:

Matthew 15:18 —
But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.

Proverbs 4:23-24 —
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. 24 Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you.

James 3:6-8 —
And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

1 Corinthians 13:1 —
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
